Description:
A hands-on workshop for people interested in empowering communities and
leveraging individual and community assets for public good -- the first
time that these two internationally renowned teachers of strength-based
approaches to community development have teamed up to teach together!
Topics will include using Appreciative Inquiry and Asset-Based
Community Development in community regeneration, and practices and
tools developed by Imagine Chicago and the ABCD Institute for the
development of hope and civic engagement. Don't miss this first
extended live dialogue between these two leading social innovators.
Stories, resources and relevant tools will be focused around particular
interests and questions of program participants.
BLISS W. BROWNE is a contagiously hopeful mother, priest, former corporate banker and President of Imagine
Chicago (www.imaginechicago.org), an organization she founded in 1992 to create an economy in which nothing
and no one is wasted. Bliss works on six continents doing keynote
speaking, facilitating, consulting, and training with people who want
to make a difference and to work together in creative ways to do so.
JODY KRETZMANN is the Director of the Asset Based Community Development
Institute at Northwestern University and author with John McKnight of
"Building Communities from the Inside Out." The ABCD Institute works
with community building leaders across North America and five other
continents to conduct research, produce materials and practical
resources and support community based efforts to rediscover local
capacities and to mobilize citizens’ resources to plan and implement
positive futures. Jody has worked to develop community-oriented public
policy at the national, state and local levels, including on Obama’s
Urban Transition policy team. He is recognized internationally as an
inspiring, straightforward, and wise advocate of strength-based
