Cate Creede, PhD, is in constant pursuit of a “fantasy scholar-practitioner life.”  Based in Toronto , she has an organizational practice focused on collaborative communication, where she works with a loosely affiliated group of consultants known as The Potential Group.

Her current projects are mainly in the complex network of Toronto area teaching hospitals, working to create more effective inter-professional collaboration. Other clients range from global pharmaceutical companies to small grassroots not-for-profit agencies.  In all contexts, she uses social construction and Appreciative Inquiry principles to support her clients in creating and enacting generative futures, creating more solid relationships along the way.

Cate views her core role as creating meaningful conversations, creating new ways of talking about and framing a group’s work that can inspire the entire community.  Specific activities range from one-on-one coaching to full system summits.  All of her work starts with identifying the strengths within any organization and using those to create new possibilities to generate sustainable change. Cate’s practice is integrated with her academic work.  She completed her PhD in Human and Organizational Systems at Fielding Graduate University in November, 2008.  She is currently developing publications from her dissertation, and is also working on several research projects related to hear healthcare work.

Cate’s other passion is for the work she does with children in western Uganda. ( http://nikibasika.com/cate-creede-phd/ ) She is on a small hands-on board that is responsible for all fundraising, strategic direction and operational oversight of the Nikibasika Children’s Centre for 51 orphaned and vulnerable children in Kasese, Uganda .  (http://nikibasika.com/ )  Nikibasika means “it is possible” in one of the local languages, and the work is about supporting these children to live their imagined futures as self-sustaining, contributing citizens.  She is also on the Board of Directors of the Canada Africa Community Health Alliance. Cate works mainly in Toronto , but has a growing practice in Seattle, Vancouver and in western New York .
