Maurice L. Monette, EdD, is principal of the Vallarta Institute, an organizational consulting service with offices in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico and Oakland, California. He provides leadership coaching and team development internationally to foundations and non-profits, as well as to financial, health care, and high tech companies. He is also one of three David and Lucile Packard Foundation Organizational Effectiveness Consultants responsible for grant making to conservation and reproductive health organizations in Africa, Asia and North America. Maurice brings to his clients over 30 years of consulting, publishing and graduate teaching; and advanced degrees from Columbia University, Boston University, and Weston School of Theology. Prior to starting his consulting service in 2006, he created and chaired a master’s program in organizational consulting and a certificate program in organizational coaching at John F. Kennedy University in Pleasant Hill, California. He introduced students to appreciative inquiry as part of a foundational course called The Self as Instrument. In addition, he has trained thousands of clients to use the Enneagram from an appreciative inquiry perspective. Maurice is co-editor of the book “Cultures of Participation at Work in Cuba and the US” (2006; CIPS, Spanish; ODN , English), which is a compilation of practices in the US and Cuba that have successfully engaged employees and communities in organizational change. He recently guest edited the Winter 2011 issue of the Organizational Development Practitioner journal on “International OD Practices and Challenges.” Maurice lives and works most of the year in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico where, besides working, he enjoys creative writing and reading historical novels.
