Relational Practices in Peacebuilding, Mediation and
Conflict Transformation: From the Intimate to the International

November 14-17, 2012,  San Diego, California, Mission Bay, Bahia Resort and Conference Center

Call for Proposals

We invite you to submit a proposal to present at our Taos conference, November 14-17, 2012 in San Diego, California. We will come together to share practices and research, and create new forms of practice for peacebuilding informed by social construction as we feature relational, collaborative, and appreciative practices for conflict transformation and mediation in families, organizations, communities, and the world. There could not be a more important moment for this gathering. As inequality, interpersonal violence, community conflict, environmental demise, political unrest, terrorism, and general global unease proliferate, it becomes increasingly important for us to share and expand our relational resources to create peacebuilding opportunities among people, communities, and nations. We hope you will join us in this important gathering.

We will be looking for proposals that specifically fit the themes of the conference and bring forward innovative, relational, appreciative, and collaborative practices from the intimate to the international that make a difference in lives both locally and around the world.

Timeline:
1. Submit your proposal between now and May 30th.
2. You will be notified by July 30th with acceptance.
3. You need to register for the conference by Aug. 30th in order to be part of the program. A reduced presenter's registration fee is available.

1. Practice Showcase –In this format, the presenter explains or demonstrates a unique and successful peacebuilding, mediation, or conflict transformation skill or practice that has applicability across various situations and offers participants an opportunity to become involved with the showcased practice. For example, practice showcase presenters would provide exemplars and stories of using this practice, and then begin to help participants develop ways to apply or fashion the new practice to their own work. This is not a lecture format. Powerpoint allowed. 1-hour in length

2. TAD Talk – this is a new format! Like the famous TED talks, TAD talk presenters will prepare and deliver a vibrant 15-minute talk about peacebuilding, mediation, or conflict transformation and follow up with 15 minutes of generative dialogue, discussion, questions/answers, or an activity. 30 mins. in length

The Poster Session submission form is found at this link:

3. Poster Session Presentation – this is a typical visual representation of a project, practice, inquiry, or case that is posted on poster boards (size to be determined). During an afternoon at the conference, poster presenters will be available at their posters to share hand-outs, show a short video, talk with visitors, and answer questions.
The Poster session will run for 2-3 hours during an afternoon.

All presenters will need to be registered for the conference at our special registration fee for presenters. We operate all of our conferences on a break-even basis so cannot provide any additional reductions for presenters. This registration fee helps us cover our direct costs involved with running the conference.

We very much look forward to your proposal and to working with you to help fill out a rich and full program at the conference.

If you have any questions or need assistance, please feel free to contact me.
