Keynote Speakers

Opening Plenary/Keynote with

Harlene Anderson, Sylvia London and Sue Levin

“You Never Step into the same . . . . . .”
Flowing Ideas, Practices and Relationships

Practitioners and scholars interested in postmodern philosophy and social construction theory are often asked: “What’s new, what’s next?” Such questions may presume that transformation is noticeably marked and distinguishes something discretely new. Harlene, Sue and Sylvia will talk about the continual evolution and development of what is referred to as collaborative, conversational, dialogical,  -- and will specifically focus on the significant influences on their ideas, practices and relationships.

“A man cannot step into the same river twice;
the river is not the same and the man is not the same.”

Kenneth Gergen, Dora Schnitmann and Edgardo Morales: The Flowering of Relational Practice

Sheila McNamee, Marilene Grandesso and John Winslade

Karl Tomm, Sally St. George and Dan Wulff:   Bringforthism and Social Discourses

As humans we bring forth realities from the fabric of our social existences. Not sensing our roles in creating these realities for our lives, we can unwittingly re-inscribe the notion that social discourses are universal and static and miss opportunities to choose new paths. Knowing about how we come to know what we know, can guide therapists toward choices that are more likely to privilege preferred realities, discourses, patterns of interaction, and social change. We will talk about the paths we are taking in our therapeutic work as we develop connections between bringforthism and social discourses.

Mary Gergen, Rocío Chaveste and Irma Rodriguez
