From some ideas and approaches of social constructionism and contemporary hermeneutics, the book's emphasis is on expanding the boundaries of freedom as a central metaphor to assist people seeking help in therapy. It is a way of doing therapy at the same time includes the idea of a simultaneous mechanism of deconstruction and construction (which is identified as deco-construction), which presumably includes the relational, language and meaning games in which we believe are involved as consultants. Starting from the idea that our ways of being, thinking and interacting with the environment are socially constructed, and that the interpretation of "our reality" is concomitant to that process, some conceptual elements, taken from different disciplines and authors, led us to the idea of engaging in a dialogue (hermeneutical and constructionist) that allows the consultants access a new or expanded view of their particular forms of life (or "experience of the world"), with consequent expansionary effect to their meaningful surrounding. Hence the idea of the practices of freedom is used as a metaphorical device to identify therapeutic conversations that we do, including the process of deco-construction of some footprints of the past that may be hindering a way of 'being in the world' most adaptive and satisfactory.
