Weiwei Lu is a passionate narrative researcher and practitioner. She obtained her PhD from the Department of Social and Behavioural Sciences at the City University of Hong Kong in 2024. She also obtained a master degree from the program of narrative therapy and community work at the University of Melbourne. 

Dr. Lu’s research interest centers on the interplays among narrative, power, and agency in transformative communications from a relational perspective. Her research settings cover narrative communication, healthcare communication, and organizational communication.

Dr. Lu’s PhD thesis develops a narrative co-construction model of shared decision-making in doctor and patient communication, with a field work of cancer treatment in hospitals in China.

As an active participant in academic communities, Dr. Lu is currently serving as an Early Career Representative in the International Shared Decision-Making Society (ISDMS) and co-chairing the Asia Shared Decision-Making Network. She has presented her research at more than ten international conferences in healthcare communication, applied linguistics, communication, and sociology. Dr. Lu provides training on healthcare communication and leadership to hospitals. Dr. Lu’s work has been published in Health Expectations and Patient Education & Counseling.

Dr. Lu’s next and future plans are to extend her research on narrative co-construction from the interpersonal level to the organizational and social levels.
