Joost has worked at Utrecht University of Applied Sciences (Hogeschool Utrecht) since 2004. He lectured undergraduate students; chaired the Personal Coaching and Team Coaching minor; and facilitated team development as an internal team coach. As MT member of the Institute for People & Business, Joost co-heads the fulltime undergraduate Business Administration program and heads the part-time undergraduate programs in Business Administration and Human Resource Management. He is a Senior Researcher in the Research Group Decent Work, which aims to support organizations in creating, organizing and sustainably maintaining decent work, through practice-based research. As a member of the Graduate Network of the Professional Doctorate Program Learning & Professionalizing in the Netherlands, Joost is involved in the development of this professional PhD equivalent, and in the facilitation of the candidates’ learning community. In 2023 and 2024, Joost lectured graduate students in Organization Theory and Organizational Change at Marnix Academie (University of Applied Sciences) in Utrecht. Furthermore, he runs a small company in Utrecht in which he offers therapy and coaching services to individual clients and organizations.
Joost earned a Bachelor’s degree in Finance & Accounting from Hanze University of Applied Sciences Groningen and a Master of Science degree in Business Administration from Erasmus University Rotterdam, where he majored in organizational change. Joost has worked in several finance positions for (among others) Siemens and Hema, and worked with a small training and coaching company (Dreamfactory). He holds postgraduate diploma’s in business control (Nive Opleidingen) and psychosocial therapy/coaching (Phoenix Opleidingen), and he is a licensed psychosocial therapist (NVPA and RBCZ). In 2024, he obtained a PhD from University of Twente. In his dissertation (https://doi.org/10.3990/1.9789036559980) entitled Relational Coaching for Management Consultants: A Social Constructionist Action Research Study, Joost describes the development of a practice for management consultants who seek to ‘take a look in the mirror’ with regard to their facilitating role in complex organizational change processes. In collaboration with an Amsterdam based management consulting firm, he used psychosocial therapeutic and coaching knowledge bases in co-constructing this practice as a tailor-made development opportunity for experienced management consultants.
