Christopher James Richmond, Ph.D., LP, LMFT, serves as Professor and University Counselor at Ferris State University in Big Rapids, Michigan. Prior to coming to Ferris State University, Chris completed his APA-approved internship at the University of Kansas. He was an Executive Board Member and Treasurer of the Solution-Focused Brief Therapy Association for approximately four years.

Chris is incredibly passionate about helping others to discover and explore their strengths and resources. He is also passionate about the work involved in helping others to articulate their “preferred future.” He has been a student of Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT) for nearly 21 years! Chris has been an invited speaker to several conferences and trainings discussing his knowledge related to all things SFBT. His research in SFBT explores the structure and impact of the intake session on client outcomes. His dissertation topic: Effects of Solution-Focused versus Problem-Focused Intake Questions on Pre-Treatment Change. Chris has been deeply impacted by the constructivist work of Ludwig Wittgenstein and how it has shaped many facets of SFBT.

Chris is a Licensed Psychologist (LP) and Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT). He has published in professional journals in the area of SFBT and Health Psychology. Chris enjoys sharing the world of SFBT to others through teaching, training and supervision.

In his free time Chris enjoys “escaping reality” and spending time with his wife and basset hounds at their off-grid tiny cabin in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula near Houghton.
