Charlene Désir, Ed.D, is a professor at Nova Southeastern University. She received her doctorate from Harvard University and is a Vodoun priestess initiated in the Sosyete Nago in Jacmel, Haiti. She is also a member of the Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc. Dr. Désir’s academic interest is in the socio-psychological, and spiritual adjustment of children and young adults. Dr. Désir has published and presented various papers on the topic of immigrant students’ adjustment to the U.S., African diaspora spiritual epistemology, and Pan-African identity development. In addition, she co-founded T.E.N. Global, an empowerment network for Haitian women and children and was the 2012 president of the Haitian Studies Association, and in 2021 the Co-Vice-President of Kosanba, a Vodou academic organization. Dr. Désir has worked as a school psychologist, K-12 school counselor, school administrator, an academic advisor, spiritual healer and professor.
