Reaching New Heights on Single-Session Therapy and Walk-In Services - An International Symposium

Single session and walk-in services are emerging as a major form of mental health service delivery. One of the main objectives for the 2ndInternational symposium is to highlight the impact that the philosophy and practice of single session therapies and walk-in service delivery have had on accessibility and cost efficiency of mental health services for children, families, couples and individuals.
Central to the proceedings of the symposium is to provide dialogue between some of the original developers of the field with the emerging experiences of those who are newer to this work. The symposium will provide information about implementing and supporting single session and walk-in therapy and training for front-line clinicians in these practices.

Two pre-conference workshops, one in the morning and one in the afternoon, will be held on September 28 at Wood's Homes, Parkdale Campus, 805 37 St. NW, Calgary. (Registration details for the workshop will follow.)
Karen Young, MSW/RSW, has played a key role in the extensive development of walk-in counselling services in Ontario. In Walk-in Clinic & Brief Narrative Therapy: Making the Most of Every Session, she will present clear guidelines for the use of brief narrative practices at walk-in clinics that create meaningful and useful conversations, making the most of every session.
Moshe Talmon, PhD, Author of Single Session Therapy, Single Session Solutions and co-editor of Capturing the Moment will present Single-session Therapy (SST) With Difficult Cases.The workshop will be based on an un-edited 53 minute SST with a long-term client who previously was treated in several inpatient units facing life threatening conditions resulting from severe psychotic-like OCD, Anorexia and Bulimia combined (Registration details for the workshops will follow).
This conference will offer approved Alberta College of Social Work Category A Continuing Competency Activity Credits and other professions can receive a certificate for their continuing competency plans.
