The Institute is proud to be hosting our second virtual Performing the World (PTW) Happening(s) 2021, with virtual events over four weekends, September 25 – October 16. Last summer’s first PTW Happening(s) 2020, proved a great success, opening up the work of performance activists to many more people, generating new ways of participating and building relationships, and allowing for a new and unanticipated kind of intimacy.

We’ve chosen as this year’s theme, All Together Now! Separation, Connection and Other Myths, as timely and conducive to creativity and play. It is timely in this second year of the Covid pandemic, as local and global inequities abound in vaccine distribution and social and economic safety nets, as some countries “open up” and others remain closed or close down again, and as “We’re all in this together” remains, sadly, a mostly empty slogan. The theme is conducive to creativity and play because without what play and creativity open up for people, even the best of existing problem-solving approaches fail.
