Empowering Citizen Leadership | May 5

Tue, May 5, 2009

Target Audience: All
Location: Chicago, IL
Presented by: Bliss Browne, President of Imagine Chicago
Sponsored by: Imagine Chicago

Description:
Active citizenship requires both confidence and competence—confidence that peoples' highest aspirations are possible to translate into action and competence to do so. This hands on workshop will train participants in a proven mini grants program developed by Imagine Chicago to enable local citizen leaders to imagine, design and lead low-cost high impact community projects and recruit other volunteers to work with them. The project has been run successfully in Chicago, rural Ghana and north central Montana.

Citizen Leaders incorporates a community innovation guide
developed by IMAGINE CHICAGO, with which local leaders learn to:
• look at their community in strength based ways
• develop their leadership
• recruit and lead a project team
• design and write a project proposal
• create the project with their team
• document, share and sustain their project

Participants come together in a series of workshops in which they learn how to understand their community’s assets, imagine ways to improve their neighborhoods, and create innovations that meet the needs of their communities as they perceive them.

This "Empowering Citizen Leadership" workshop will train participants in the use of a comprehensive training manual for running Citizen Leaders. Key materials are available in both English and Spanish.

Cost of $350 per workshop includes training materials.
Early bird discount of $50 for registrations prior to February 28.
Space limited to 15 participants. Register early.
