Franklin moved to Houston in 1948, graduated from Houston public schools and received a BBA in Business Management from the University of Houston in 1962. In 1966, after a successful career in the real estate development business with Olson and Associates, he attended Houston Baptist College and received a MAP in clinical psychology. His career then shifted to doing marriage and family counseling for the next twenty years at Memorial Drive United Methodist Church. He then returned to academia, and received a PhD in Organizational Psychology granted through Tilburg University in the Netherlands. Currently at MDUMC his responsibilities include Mercy and Justice ministries. Franklin also is on the executive committee of TMO (The Metropolitan Organization) a faith based organizations of approximately 30 congregations dealing with social justice issues, including healthcare, education, job training, immigration reform and criminal justice.
He and his wife Gail married in 1960 and they have two sons and three grandchildren.
