Ottar works as a Professor of Counselling at NTNU, Professor of Mental Health Care at University College of Southeast Norway, and Professor 2 at Nord University. He is in the Board of Taos Institute Europe and a Taos Associate. He did his PhD-research in Norway on a collaborative learning project on how therapists learn new ideas and practices together. His research and practice is mostly focused on recovery, collaborative action research, social constructionist theory and practice, supervision, collaborative and dialogical practices in family therapy and mental health care, user involvement in research. He is also very interested in the philosophy of mental health, counselling and recovery processes.
