Social Construction: Relational Theory and Transformative Practices | Oct. 5-7, 2017

Thu, October 5, 20176:00 PM - 5:00 PM

through Oct. 7, 2017

Durham, New Hampshire

October 5 - 6, 2017

with Sheila McNamee, Ph.D. and Harlene Anderson, Ph.D.

Sheila and Harlene invite you to join them in the beautiful New England environment for an intimate workshop. Bringing their breadth of experiences together, the workshop will introduce social construction and relational practices for those new to it and will help those familiar with it deepen their understandings and practices. Additionally, focus will be on the practical application of constructionist ideas in organizations, therapy, education, and community development. We will focus on relational constructionist understandings of language and meaning making, polyvocality, transformative dialogue, and appreciative and future oriented perspectives. Participants will learn how social reality is constructed in language and the implications of this for our understandings, knowledge, and everyday practice. Participants with a background in social construction will have an opportunity to explore issues of special relevance to their projects and practices. Taos Ph.D. students are encouraged to attend, as are other interested students and professionals.

Workshop sessions will be complimented by informal gatherings and an opening dinner together. Our meeting venue is the Community Church of Durham.

Hotel rooms can be booked separately at the Holiday Inn Express (information below). Please mention the “Taos Institute” group when booking. Room reservations must be received by September 15, 2017.

Come to Durham and explore the potential of social construction and relational practices in your personal and professional lives.
