Susanne Bauer, former lecturer and visiting researcher at the Centre for Near and Middle Eastern Studies at Marburg University (2010 – 2011), completed her Ph.D. in 2013 at the Tilburg University, Netherlands, Faculties of Humanities, supervised by Prof-Dr.John Rijsman, Social and Behavioural Studies. Susanne received her MA (1988) and BA (1986) in Middle Eastern Studies, history and Romanistics from Bonn University, Germany. During that time, she spent an academic year at Damascus University, Syria (19984/85), and a DAAD language scholarship (summer 1986) at Beyazit University, Istanbul, Turkey. Equipped with a postgraduate degree in Development studies from the german development institute (www.die-gdi.de, 1989-1990). Susanne’s research design for dialogue in the MENA region in international development cooperation has made her feel at home in eight Maghreb and Mashrek countries where she commmutes regularly.
Her interest in relational aspects of dialogic inquiry is sourced by her systemic organisation development background, certified from the Austrian management center Vorarlberg (www.mcv.at: 2003).
Her gender expertise in German development practice lets Susanne nurture the practice of transformation for truthful dialogue and facilitation, mostly engaged with small enterprise development in the Middle East and North Africa. As a well-experienced networker, her current research objective is to build a virtual dialogue platform in the MENA region.
Engaged in numerous development trainings for leadership stakeholders, private companies and public sector employees, Susanne’s teaching combines online and offline training both in-house as well as with various consultancy offers in her freelance capacity, both for GIZ as well as for the ILO and other UN agencies.
