Tom Strong is a psychologist and recently retired counselor-educator with the Counselling Psychology area at the University of Calgary. Tom practiced social constructionist, or discursive, approaches to therapy in northwestern British Columbia for years before his academic career. Central to his academic research and writing has been a focus on the collaborative and critically reflective potentials he sees afforded by discursive approaches to psychotherapy. This focus translated to using discursive and action-oriented ideas and methods to research the practices, institutional and professional constraints on, and outcomes of, discursive therapy – in micro and macro ways. For details on his books, articles and chapters, and continued interests please consult his website, check out his many downloadable publications at ResearchGate ( or contact him directly at strongt@ucalgary.ca). Tom now resides in beautiful Duncan, BC Canada where he continues to build on his ceaseless interest in social constructionist ideas and practices.
