Katerina Novotná reached education in psychology (M.A., Faculty of Arts, Masaryk University, Brno, CZ), philosophy (Bc., the same faculty) and psychotherapy (Institute of Systemic Experience, Prague, CZ). She will finish her Ph.D. study in the field of Social Psychology at Faculty of Social Studies, Masaryk University, Brno. Her dissertation employs collaborative practices ideas.

She worked as a therapist and social worker in 2007 – 2010 within a non-profit organization, Podane Ruce“ (Brno, Czech Republic) aimed at social integration of people with a history of illicit drug use, in department called Drug services in prison and aftercare. Nowadays Katka´s professional life can be divided into three parts: university, private praxis, Narativ.

Katka is a co-founder of an informal group Narativ. They organize various activities, all connected to promoting postmodern approaches in therapy, counseling and other practices. The emphasis is put on creating horizontal, leaderfull, unformal and out-of-institutions dialogical spaces, even in their own group. This scenario brings them together with students in university courses, practitioners in social project, participants of Brno´s International Certificate program in Collaborative Practices, clients within reflecting teams work, people at “Meganarativ“ pub meetings, authors of books their translate (Jaakko Seikkula´s Network dialogues for example).

At Masaryk University she is employed from 2011 as a leader of EU project „Innovation at the Department of Psychology“, regarding university courses, praxis and internships and center for counseling. It is a work invitating to join teachers, students, practitioners and clients into a shared space helping all of them to feel more comfortable and meaningful in what they do together. She also teaches some courses, e.g. “Psychotherapy practicum: postmodern perspective“ with Pavel Nepustil.

Since 2009 Katka runs her private psychoterapeutic praxis, where she consults individuals, couples and families. She develops collaborative philosophical stance as a position from where she consults.

Meeting Rocio Chaveste Gutierrez in 2009 has been of a crucial importance for her professional and personal life. Since then she visits Mexico, Kanankil, International summer institute (year 2011), Merida Taos Conference… a lot of people, ideas and experiences that keeps on being a rich inspiration for her.
