The Rev. Steve Lawler is the founding Director of the Walker Leadership Institute at Eden Theological Seminary in St. Louis. He works to extend the Institute’s mission of leadership for the common good through the Institute’s programming, presentations, and workshops.

Ordained in the Episcopal church, Rev. Lawler served from 2001 to 2019 as the priest of St. Stephens & The Vine, a parish and community collaboration hub in Ferguson, Missouri. He also was the Episcopal chaplain to Washington University in St. Louis and has served churches in Illinois, Connecticut, Oklahoma, and Missouri. He was the Director of Religious Education at Holland Hall School in Tulsa, Oklahoma. 

From 1990 to 2016, Rev. Lawler was faculty and program coordinator for University College of Washington University in St Louis, teaching courses on leadership and organization development.

As an organizational development consultant, he has served as Managing Director of Opinions Inc., a global opinion research organization; Managing Director for North America for Expert Eyes N.V., a Belgian-based venture firm; and Chief Possibilities Officer for XPLANE, a global design firm. Past clients include The Four Seasons Hotels & Resorts, Liguori Press, Oetker Hotels GmBH, The Redemptorists of the Denver Province, Ryobi, Ingersoll Rand, KDHX Community Media, the Center for Contemporary Arts, The Four Seasons Hotels & Resorts, Liguori Press, and the Oetker Hotels GmBH. 

Rev. Lawler’s service includes membership on the boards of EarthDance, the USGBC Gateway Chapter, Justine-Petersen, KnowledgePlatform, Geode, Buzzbold, and the Center for Social Empowerment.

He has a Master of Divinity from Seabury-Western Theological Seminary, a Master of Sacred Theology from Yale Divinity School, and an Executive MBA from the Olin School of Business, Washington University in St. Louis, Missouri. 

Rev. Lawler and his partner, Lynda Morrison, live in metropolitan St. Louis, where she is Associate Dean, St. Louis University School of Medicine. Together they share three adult children, Allie, Nicolle and Mouna.
