Katerina Novotná reached education in psychology (M.A., Faculty of Arts,
Masaryk University, Brno, CZ), philosophy (Bc., the same faculty) and
psychotherapy (Institute of Systemic Experience, Prague, CZ). She will
finish her Ph.D. study in the field of Social Psychology at Faculty of
Social Studies, Masaryk University, Brno. Her dissertation employs
collaborative practices ideas.
She worked as a therapist and social worker in 2007 – 2010 within a
non-profit organization, Podane Ruce“ (Brno, Czech Republic) aimed at
social integration of people with a history of illicit drug use, in
department called Drug services in prison and aftercare. Nowadays
Katka´s professional life can be divided into three parts: university,
private praxis, Narativ.
Katka is a co-founder of an informal group Narativ. They organize
various activities, all connected to promoting postmodern approaches in
therapy, counseling and other practices. The emphasis is put on creating
horizontal, leaderfull, unformal and out-of-institutions dialogical
spaces, even in their own group. This scenario brings them together with
students in university courses, practitioners in social project,
participants of Brno´s International Certificate program in
Collaborative Practices, clients within reflecting teams work, people at
“Meganarativ“ pub meetings, authors of books their translate (Jaakko
Seikkula´s Network dialogues for example).
At Masaryk University she is employed from 2011 as a leader of EU
project „Innovation at the Department of Psychology“, regarding
university courses, praxis and internships and center for counseling. It
is a work invitating to join teachers, students, practitioners and
clients into a shared space helping all of them to feel more comfortable
and meaningful in what they do together. She also teaches some courses,
e.g. “Psychotherapy practicum: postmodern perspective“ with Pavel
Nepustil.
Since 2009 Katka runs her private psychoterapeutic praxis, where she
consults individuals, couples and families. She develops collaborative
philosophical stance as a position from where she consults.
Meeting Rocio Chaveste Gutierrez in 2009 has been of a crucial
importance for her professional and personal life. Since then she visits
Mexico, Kanankil, International summer institute (year 2011), Merida
Taos Conference… a lot of people, ideas and experiences that keeps on
being a rich inspiration for her.
