William Lax, PhD, ABPP, is a dean at Union Institute & University where he has primary administrative responsibilities for the PsyD program in Clinical Psychology, the MS in Organizational Leadership, and the Professional Studies and Continuing Education programs. Over the course of his career he has integrated his interests in Narrative therapy, postmodernism and Buddhism into his clinical work, and he has published and presented widely in these areas.

Bill was a co-founder of the Brattleboro Family Institute (1982-1996) where he and his colleagues sponsored and provided training workshops featuring many of the leading figures in family therapy. He was a faculty member at Antioch University New England where he also served as the associate director of the PsyD program in clinical psychology.

His current interests focus on the roles of mindfulness and emotion in therapeutic change and organizational leadership, integrating Emotion-focused therapy with Narrative therapy.

He holds a PhD in clinical psychology from Fielding Graduate University and a MA in Internet Strategy Management from Marlboro College. He is Board Certified in Couple and Family Psychology by the American Board of Professional Psychology and is licensed as a psychologist in Vermont and New Hampshire. He maintains a small private practice in Vermont where he has worked for over 30 years.

He lives in rural Vermont with his wife, Sydney Crystal, and their dog.
