Toru Kiyomiya is a professor at Seinan Gakuin University and a visiting professor at Akita International University. He taught at the department of communication, University of Tulsa as well as University of Texas at San Antonio in the US after received his Ph.D. in Communication from Michigan State University. His master degree is Master of Labor Relations and Human Resources (Michigan State University). He had additional international experiences as a visiting scholar at Cardiff Business School, University of Cardiff in UK, Hankamer Business School at Baylor University, and the department of communication in University of California Santa Barbara in the USA.  His major is in the field of organizational communication which embraces internal communication such as issues of leadership, conflicts, and teamwork as well as external communication such as issues of corporate reputation, risk and crisis management, stakeholder communication. He is also interested in teaching the areas of international management, cross-cultural management, and intercultural communication; previously he was a director of the Center for International Education, Seinan Gakuin University. In his research interests, he has applied organizational discourse approaches to Japanese organization studies, and he is interested in critical management studies in Japanese management context. His ongoing research is an action research on the resilient process of tsunami hit areas in the northern Japan and organizational discourse studies in the medical organizations. His goal is to facilitate organizational democracy which contributes to world peace.
