Marco Gemignani is associate professor of psychology at the Universidad Loyola Andalucía in Seville, Spain. A native of Italy, he holds a Ph.D. in Counseling Psychology from the University of Florida. Until 2017 he was a professor in the Psychology Department at Duquesne University, in Pittsburgh, PA, where he specialized in qualitative methodologies and worked on the promotion of the psycho-social well-being of refugees and unauthorized migrants in the US. An enthusiast of Foucault and post-structuralism, his research concerns migration, constructions of borders, cultural studies, and critical methodologies. Through various forms of community-based participatory action research, his inquiry applies to the study of social processes and practices that relationally and politically create specific possibilities, ontologies, and subjectivities for migrants. In addition to Foucault and cultural studies, he finds inspiration in critical theory, social constructionism, feminist epistemologies, post-humanism, and neo-materialism.
