Tomoko Hashimoto Higashimura is an Associate Professor at Kyoto University of Education and trains teachers in Early Childhood Education and Care. She received a Ph.D. in Human and Environmental Studies from Kyoto University. Her theoretical background is social constructionism and group dynamics. Her general interests are in child-rearing support, educational system in Japan and creating a society that respects diversity. She has conducted field studies in several different settings such as a preschool for children with special needs, a support school for senior high school dropouts, nursery schools and kindergartens. She has also done research interviews with mothers of children with disabilities. She is currently focusing on the lack of childcare services for children requiring medical care in Japan. She is now a member of editorial board of the Japanese Journal of Qualitative Psychology (in Japanese).
