Dr. Giacomo Chiara is a psychologist, psychotherapist, and holds a PhD in Psychological Sciences. He is currently doing his second PhD in Social Sciences: interactions, communication, cultural constructions to the Department of Philosophy, Sociology, Education and Applied Psychology (FISPPA), University of Padua (Italy). It was visiting scholar at Universidade do Minho, Braga (Portugal) at 2012; at the Department of Psychology, Mount Royal University, Calgary (Canada); principal guest lecture at the Department of Psychology, Werklund School of Education, University of Calgary (Canada), and visiting scholar at the Calgary Family Therapy Centre at 2022. Dr. Chiara’s research interests focus on some main areas from a social constructionist perspective, critical mental health knowledge, collaborative counselling, relational therapies (narrative therapy, family therapy), semiotic interactionism, multi-being and relational processes, intercultural dialogue (cultural multi-being and cultural discourses in therapeutic conversations), migratory flows (promotion of a non-pathologizing view of the mental health of refugees and survivors of human trafficking), relational perspective of trauma, social psychology and literary texts (autobiographies, co-writing), qualitative research methods (generative research, appreciative inquiry), social poetics.
