Murray is an experienced strategic communications adviser, independent media producer and writer with a background in nursing, relational psychology and systemic organizational research.

His current client portfolio includes several national organizations, campaign groups and networks including the Health Foundation, the Clinical Human Factors Group, NHS Commissioning Board and NHS Quest. Building on his clinical experience, Murray has developed particular expertise in working with patients and professionals who have been seriously affected by error and avoidable harm in healthcare. Murray has a specific interest in relational ethics and has recently contributed to the Public Inquiry into the failings at Mid Staffordshire NHS Foundation Trust.

Murray also has significant experience as an independent producer and is Executive Producer of www.patientstories.org.uk, a social enterprise that through the creative use of digital and social media stimulates debate about quality and safety issues among healthcare professionals. He is a member of the Medical Journalists Association and was “highly commended” in the investigative journalism category at the MJA Awards 2011 for his documentary film “Beth’s Story”

In all aspects of his practice, Murray draws heavily on his research and development work in relational psychology, network theory and the social dynamics of organizing. In addition to his active collaboration with the Health Experiences Research Group at the University of Oxford, Murray also has research associations with the Centre for Innovation in Health Management at the University of Leeds and the Centre for Patient Safety & Service Quality at Imperial College London. His early career included clinical and managerial roles in the NHS followed by director level roles within an international commercial consulting environment. In 1999 he co-founded, Inter-Logics, a UK based R&D company where he was Joint Managing Director until 2008.

Murray has been a Taos Institute Associate since 2006.
