Pavel Nepustil is a co-founder of an informal group Narativ that is devoted to promoting postmodern approaches in therapy and counseling in Czech Republic and Slovakia. They run a Certificate Program in Collaborative Practices in Brno, Czech Republic, a website for Czech practitioners www.narativ.cz and organize other possibilities for conversations about social constructionist practices within Central European area.
He is employed as a leader of a counseling center „Pasaz“ („Passage“) within a non-profit organisation „Podane Ruce“ (Brno, Czech Republic) aimed at social integration of people with a history of illicit drug use. His work is connected to his Ph.D. study in the field of Social Psychology at Faculty of Social Studies, Masaryk University, Brno. His dissertation topic is “Transformations of the self after quitting long-term methamphetamine use”. At Masaryk university, Pavel also teaches a course “Psychotherapy practicum: postmodern perspective”.
Pavel Nepustil was educated in social work (Higher School of Social Work, Prachatice, Czech Republic), psychology (M.A., Faculty of Arts, Masaryk University, Brno, CZ) and psychotherapy – Institute of Systemic Experience, Prague, CZ. He studied also abroad: at Bonger Institute, Amsterdam, Netherlands (sponsored by European Society for Social Drug Research and European Commission), at University of Central Lancashire, Preston, UK (sponsored by Masaryk University) and at the Houston Galveston Institute, Houston, USA (sponsored by Fulbright Commission) where he developed in-depth understanding of collaborative practices (among other things) in psychotherapy. He also translated the book of Harlene Anderson “Conversation, Language, and Possibilities” to Czech language.
Since his 4-month study visit in Houston Galveston Institute in 2008 he collaborates with several members of HGI faculty and with Kanankil Institute in Merida, Mexico. His major interest is to help bring social constructionist ideas into local practice, especially in the fields of psychotherapy, counseling, “drug services” and research.
