Chris Hoff currently serves as Founder and Executive Director of the California Family Institute (CFI) in southern California. CFI is a nonprofit organization that was established as a community counseling center that provides desperately needed no-cost and low-cost counseling services for the community, and for the development of research and training for mental health professionals interested in social constructionism and postmodern therapy approaches.
His formal education includes and MA in Clinical Psychology from Pepperdine University, and a PhD from Loma Linda University in Marriage and Family Therapy, where his concentration was in organizational development and systems consulting. He also has over 20 years of experience in human resources, and is a licensed marriage and family therapist #53081.
His research interests include leading edge approaches to teaching and learning, social justice in family therapy, actor network theory (ANT), post-oppositional practice and pedagogy, and dialogic practice and social constructionism.
In 2017 he has published two peer-reviewed articles. The first Developmental Pedagogy in Marriage and Family Therapy Education: Preparing Students to Work Across Epistemologies in the Journal of Family Theory & Review, and the second co-authored with Justine D’Arrigo-Patrick, Navigating Critical Theory and Postmodernism in Family Therapy in the journal Family Process. He currently has an article titled Developmental Pedagogy in Marriage and Family Therapy Education: A Narrative Analysis of Students Experiences under review at the Journal of Contemporary Family Therapy.
