Margi Brown Ash’s professional ‘lives’ include being a theatre maker, educator, therapist and coach, with her own creative arts therapy studio in Brisbane Australia, 4change coaching and counselling www.4change.com.au.
Margi has been an independent artist (stage performer/devisor) for over 35 years in Australia and New York City. She is co-founder/co-artistic director of the nest, a collaborative theatre company based on social constructionist principles, creating theatre that inspires and heals. Presently Margi is writing and performing in two solo shows: HOME a postmodern exploration of re-storying our personal and professional lives; followed by EVE, a deconstruction of illness and creativity. The nest will tour these productions throughout Australia after two Brisbane seasons next year.
When not creating theatre, Margi is a lecturer in the School of Psychology and Counselling, QUT (Queensland University of Technology), teaching in the Master of Counselling program, focusing on creative therapeutic practices. She is also guest lecturer/theatre director in QUT’s Performance Studies and Curtin University of Technology, Perth where she teaches postmodern performance practices. She is associated with Griffith University, Brisbane, in the area of applied theatre, researching creative practices and the sense of belonging. She has a creative arts studio, 4change, at Metro Arts in downtown Brisbane and in Pullenvale, on the outskirts of Brisbane.
Margi is a member of M.E.A.A (Australia’s Actors Equity); a registered counsellor (MACA); a member of Australian Society for Performing Arts Health Care (ASPAH) and a Taos Associate. She lives in the country with her husband Bill and two black Labradors. Their four children are now resident in Sydney and Melbourne pursuing creative, legal and political studies.
