In this intensive, 6-hour Zoom seminar spread over 2 days (3 hours each day), Monica will invite participants to examine, discuss and reflect on different contexts in which social movements have emerged in order to resist and challenge violent ways of relating and interacting with each other. These movements have been the result of micro, mezzo, and macro practices of oppression, marginalization, exploitation, and abuse of diverse and vulnerable peoples (Indigenous and Black peoples, Women, etc.), and aim to reclaim alternative relational practices, based on empathy, compassion, tenderness, companionship, respect, and togetherness.

Participants will have the opportunity to learn more about these movements, raise awareness, and engage in dialogue about these important and timely issues. This seminar will create space for exploring the core values of these social movements and integrating them with social constructionist theory in therapeutic practices. This seminar is also an invitation to transform ourselves into collaborative allies. In addition, Monica’s hope is that participants will feel inspired by the dialogues and resources in order to become intentional/relational infiltrators into our own contexts, organizations, and clinical work.

The seminar will provide space for discussion, sharing, and interacting.

This seminar will be useful for those familiar with social construction and relational practices as well as therapy practitioners. This is an opportunity to be in conversation with others about how the therapeutic state, relational and collaborative practices can address systemic issues and social injustices.

Resources will include recommended readings, movies, and videos. Readings and other resource materials will be provided prior to the course in preparation for the discussions.
